The main purpose of this novel is to educate young people about the holocaust in the hopes that they will learn from the past and prevent this from happening again. The last line of the novel "of course nothing like that could happen again, not in this day and age" is ironic as further attempts of genocide have already occured. It is the the responsibility of today's youth to ensure these events do not reoccur.
