Main Characters:

Victoria and her little sister

  • Victoria – Obsessed with image, unsure of her identity (Asian/Australian). Feels like she doesn’t fit into either culture.
Denies her Asian heritage. Obsessed with Kyle.

  • Little Sister - Confident in who she is, accepts her heritage and is proud of it. She can not understand why Victoria wants to change herself.

Importance of character:
Victoria’s character helps show the theme of obsession and isolation. Her actions show how obsessed young women are with their looks and the negative impact and influence the media has over them. She also shows the identity crisis that many young people face in modern society- they question which culture they belong but feel isolated from both. Her infatuation for Kyle also shows how ‘obsession’ can be destructive. Victoria’s little sister is important as she provides a contrast to Victoria and shows that you need to accept not deny who you are to be truly happy. Not to change for others.
