ACT 1
-Lear divides his kingdom in 3 and tells his daughter to tell him how much they love him.
-Cordelia is disowned after refusing to tell Lear how much she loves him and marries France.
-Goneril and Regan plan to get rid of Lear.
-Edmund plans to get back at his father and brother. Plays Edgar against his father.
-Goneril resents having Lear lving with her. Makes him feel unwelcome.
-Lear gets mad at Goneril for disrespecting him and leaves to live with Regan.
-The fool tells Lear that he is the fool for giving up his kingdom and banishing those loyal to him - Cordelia and Kent.
-Lear gives Kent a letter to take to Regan.

ACT 2
  • Gloucester is tricked by Edmund into believing that his legitimate son Edgar has betrayed him, while his bastard son Edmund remains loyal.
  • Edgar runs from Gloucesters castle.
  • Kent attacks Oswald, and as punishment, is left in the stocks overnight by Cornwall.
  • Edgar disguises himself as Poor Tom, the begger.
  • Lear arrives at Gloucesters castle, and goes to confront Regan, after discovering Kent in the stocks.
  • Lear argues to Regan about Goneril, Goneril arrives. Both daughters disrespect Lear.
  • Offended, his run out of the castle, into a storm with his fool.


ACT 3


Kent is looking for Lear.
  • He finds Lear's knight instead and gives him Lear's ring to give to Cordelia + information.
  • Albany and Cornwall are in disagreement.
  • There are spies in England and the courts of France.


ACT 4
Scene 1 -
  • Edgar is disguised as Tom the beggar and encounters Gloucester, his father whom has been blinded.
  • Tom (Edgar) agrees to lead Gloucester to the cliff. Where Gloucester intends to kill himself

Scene 2 -
  • Goneril and Edmund are having an affair.
  • Albany (Goneril's husband) is horrified at how Lear is being treated.
  • Goneril and Albany have a fight.
  • Cornwall has died and Goneril of Regan due to this.

Scene 3 -
  • Cordelia is extremely upset when she hears of how her sisters have been treating her father.

Scene 4 -
  • Cordelia asked the doc to look at her father as he has gone mad (extremely mad).
  • The british armies are coming so she prepares a defence.

Scene 5 -
  • Oswald gives Regan a letter from Goneril.
  • Edmund has gone to kill Gloucester.
  • Regan is jealous of Goneril as she wants Edmund to be hers, and only hers, for herself to love and to hold in sickness and in health as long as they both shall live.

Scene 6 -
  • Edgar pretends to take Gloucester to the edge of the cliff, and Gloucester tries to commit suicide.
  • Lear appears and starts talking like a mad, a mad mad mad mad man. When Cordelia's servants come to get Lear he runs a away like a mad mad mad mad man.
  • Oswald who has Goneril's letter to Edmund tries to kill Gloucester but Edgar defends Gloucester and kills Oswald.
  • Edgar reads the letter which is in the font of comic san, and finds out that Goneril wants Edmund to kill her husband and marry her in holy matrimony, till death do them part.
  • Edgar leads Gloucester to safety.

Scene 7 -
  • Kent reveals himself to Cordelia.
  • Lear finally awakens, he is confused, dazed some might say jetlagged but eventually recognises Cordelia.
  • War is coming.

ACT 5
-There is a tension between the two sisters, as both Goneril and Regan are jealous for Edmund's love.
-Cordelia's army is defeated
-Lean and Cordelia are taken to prison
-Edgar confronts Edmund. They fight and Edmunds is wounded.
-Goneril poisons Regan
-Goneril kills herself as she felt guilty.
-While Edmund was dying, he tries to rescue Cordelia, revealing he had sent someone to kill her.
-Lear grieves and then dies.
